We began our Himalayas Diorama by building a mountainous structure with plaster strips. We made a space for a snow leopard. During this lesson we used the opportunity to discuss different types of clouds, snow leopards and their habits, Tibetan prayer flags and villages in the Himalayas.

We spent an entire lesson learning all about the snow leopard. They made their own mini snow leopards with Sargent non-hardening clay. They painted on the spots and then covered the clay scupltures with Mod Podge in order to harden the pieces.

On the back we use transfer paper to trace a Mandala onto the wood panel. The children colored in their work with Sharpies while we spent some time in thoughtful silence, contemplating their work.
