making a lion mask at etsy craft night

Last Monday I went to my first “Craft Night” at the Etsy Labs here in Brooklyn (DUMBO).  It was wonderful.  We learned from artist Maria Berrio, who, oddly enough, went to High School with my husband’s brother in Bogota, Colombia.  She taught us the simple paper-maché formula: one part flour :: two parts water. After that, we used strips of paper to build our mask on top of a balloon.  On my mask, the ears were made with cardboard and the nose was made with rolled up newspaper.
